Back At the Keyboard

With apologies for being so quiet for so long, I needed to keep concentrating on moving my home, protecting my health, and living life the way it actually occurs instead of what we had in mind. But I’m back, and I plan on staying back.

As you may know, I have two websites that “kind of” interlink. “LifeAtSea.Blog” about a three-year trip around the world living on a cruise ship, and “WITWIA.COM” which stands for “Where In The World Is Andy,” a blog site I started in 2015 and posted in, sporadically, while I was in the Peace Corps in Namibia. This particular post is going on both of them.

I just posted a longer blog under “WITWIA > Thoughts” which is the section of that website dedicated to whatever the hell I want to talk about. The other major sections of the blog are about Namibia, Oranjemund, and the shipwreck of the Bom Jesus. Any posts prior to 2023 are in the archived section. There isn’t much on the website as yet, but it’s coming. If you want to see the latest post, just click this link.

I’m working on a new blog post for “LifeAtSea.Blog” and will have it up before the end of the weekend, I hope! I might have bitten off more than I can chew with having two websites. That’s my usual M.O.

Thanks to all of you for hanging in there. I’ll do my best to make it worth your while!

  1. Hi, Andy!

Judy and I have moved back to the college town where we met, in Lamoni Iowa. I miss living on the sailboat, but after 50 years it is almost like we never left. We still know lots of people here, and are busy with all kinds of community projects. I volunteer as receptionist at a free health clinic, my wife organizes rides for a ride share program, we are docents for an historic Victorian home, and a lot of other things.

I will follow your web site with interest. I have several thousand followers on Reddit, including promoting a new solar electric car called Aptera.

The University here has a lot of international students and we host one in a spare room, so we can keep up our international contacts, too.

    Great to hear from you

    1. Hi Bruce! Great to hear from you. Sorry I missed you last time I was in town about 1.5 years ago. I thought we were going to have another get-together for the old WM crowd, but it never happened. Congratulations on what sounds like a successful move back to Iowa. While it is very different than living on a sailboat (I miss mine also), you sound more than OK with the change. I know how that feels! Give my best to Judy.

Good on ‘ya for the volunteer work with the clinic. My work with Community Development in Africa has made a deep impression about the importance of community involvement. At least for me, the feelings that go with holding “important” jobs and positions in a career path don’t hold a candle to the satisfaction of doing things as seemingly mundane as working as a receptionist for a worthy cause. I’m sure you love meeting the new people. You were always very good at that at West Marine.

Maybe we could video chat at some point? It would be fun to compare notes about your work on Reddit with what I have in mind for my blogs.

All my best. Let’s definitely stay in touch! Please use the Direct Messaging link on “Contact Me” on LifeAtSea.Blog and let me know how to email or message you on Telegram.

      Andy
